Mohmand suicide attack claims 65 lives

PESHAWAR: The death toll of Mohmand Agency suicide attack has mounted to 65 whereas more than 73 sustained injuries.

Sources said a suicide bomber blew up himself outside political agent?s office in tehsil Yeka Ghand on Friday morning. The high intensity blast has damaged nearby buildings and Yeka Ghanda jail premises. Rescue operations stated at the site of the blast and the bodies and injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Shab Qadar.

Political Agent Amjad Ali Khan told media that 65 people were killed and over 73 wounded in the incident.

Four personnel of Khasadar Force are also included among the dead. According to sources, several prisoners have been escaped after the blast that damaged the jail building.

Four bodies and 65 injured shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar after giving first aid at Shab Qadar Hospital where emergency has been imposed.

MQM dubs resolution against media ?assault on free press?

LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Friday condemned in strongest terms the passage of resolution in Punjab Assembly against electronic media and torture of journalists, terming it a brazen assault on freedom of press.

In a statement issued from MQM Secretariat London, the Party said media was also attacked in abusive language in Punjab Assembly a couple days ago. ?The resolution passed against media and the way journalists, who were protesting against the move peacefully, were attacked by the Punjab Assembly members is highly deplorable and cannot be condemned more,? it said.

The MQM Coordination Committee termed the above incidents a brazen and proclaimed attack on freedom of press.

Fatima Jinnah?s 43rd death anniversary today

ISLAMABAD: The nation is commemorating the 43rd death anniversary of the Madar-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah today (Friday) with great respect and reverence.

Quran Khawani is being held at her grave located within the precincts of the mausoleum of her brother - Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in Karachi. People drawn from different walks of life are visiting her grave to lay wreaths and offer Fateha.

Besides schools and colleges, various social and political organizations have planned various activities to mark the day in a befitting manner.

Fatima Jinnah (July 30, 1893 - July 9, 1967) was an active political figure in the movement for independence. She is commonly known as ?Khatun-e Pakistan? (Lady of Pakistan) and ?Mader-e Millat?.

She played an important role in the Pakistan Movement and was the primary organizer of the All India Muslim Women Students Federation.

Fatima Jinnah actively participated in national politics after the creation of Pakistan and death of her brother. She continued to work for the welfare of people till she breathed her last.

Paying tributes to the great services rendered by Fatima Jinnah for women empowerment, Ms Tanzeela, an active social worker said that the sacrifices of prominent women leaders including Fatima Jinnah, Begum Liaqat Ali Khan in freedom movement were of great significance.

Fatima Jinnah was a role model not only for the Muslim women of South Asia, but also for those of whole Asia, she added.

Prominent political leaders like, Begum Rana Liaqat Ali, Nusrat Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto worked for the welfare of women in the country by following the footsteps of Madar-e-Millat, she added.
