Habib Jalib laid to rest after funeral prayers

QUETTA: Secretary General of Balochistan National Party (BNP) Habib Jalib, who was assassinated Wednesday morning in a firing incident, has been laid to rest here in his ancestral graveyard.

The deceased?s funderal prayer was held near the above graveyard and attended by leaders and workers of BNP besides representatives of various nationalist, political, religious and other parties including Pushtoonkhwa Mili Awami Party, National Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Hazara Democratic Party. Lawyers and a large number of people belonging to different walks life were also present.

Imam of a local mosque lead the funeral prayers.

Leaders a various political and nationalist parties also addressed the gathering on the occasion and paid rich tributes to Habib Jalib Baloch for his services rendered in the realm of politics. They strongly condemned the killing of the BNP leader and demanded that the culprits be brought to justice.

CJ Link Canal to be reopened after three days: IRSA

ISLAMABAD: Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has increased the water share of Sindh to 240,000 cusecs while Chairman of the Authority has said that Chasma-Jehlum Link Canal will be reopened after 3 days.

IRSA meeting was held here in Islamabad with IRSA Chairman Raqeeb Khan in the chair.

Talking to newsmen following the meeting, IRSA Chairman said that decisions have been made with consensus during the meeting.

The meeting decided to raise the water share of Sindh to 240,000 cusecs, that of Balochistan to 13000 cusecs, and Khyber-Pukhtoonkhwa to 3000 cusecs.

The Chairman said that the water needs of Sindh will be met within the next couple of days.

He said Chashma-Jehlum Link Canal will be reopened after 3 days following inflow of water into Guddu Barrage.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah expressed resentment over convening of the IRSA meeting in an emergency and exertion of pressure on a representative of Sindh at IRSA.

At a press conference here, the Chief Minister demanded of the Prime Minister to take notice of the issue.

He said water shortage in Sindh is affecting rice crop while Thatta and Badin are facing a draught like situation.

Islamabad gas line blast kills one, injures 35

ISLAMABAD: At least a man was killed and 35 others sustained injuries in a gas pipeline blast at a local hotel situated in a commercial area here, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The Sui gas pipeline at a local Karachi company hotel burst, burning out a man and injuring 35 others.

Some nearby shops and hotel itself also caught fire following the blast.

The fire brigade and relief workers before long arrived on the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Riaz. Of the injured, 15 have been transported to PIMS hotel; of them, five are in critical condition.

Question mark on degrees of Talpur, Gabol, Abidi

KARACHI: Universities of Sindh including Karachi have sent their scrutiny reports on suspected degrees of parliamentarians to Higher Education Commission (HEC).

It has been learnt that these reports have put a question mark on degrees of Faryal Talpur and many other important government dignitaries.

Separately, Chairman HEC Dr. Javed Leghari has assured that he would neither resign nor will he proceed on long leave.

Sources told Geo News that HEC found suspected the degrees of MNA Faryal Talpur, State Minister Nabil Gabol, Senator Faisal Raza Abidi, Provincial Minister Mukesh Chawla, MPA Shamshad Bachani among other parliamentarians. The HEC also said that the procedure of sending some of the reports was also not according to the rules and regulations.

HEC noted that some of the degrees did not even have stamp of the Vice Chancellor and returned the reports to the universities of Karachi and Sindh with instructions that the process of verification be carried out in accordance with the specified formula.

Meanwhile, HEC has sent additional 107 degrees of parliamentarians for scrutiny to various universities.

So far 33 out of 36 universities have forwarded reports to HEC.

Punjab University has compiled and sent reports of 217 degrees of the parliamentarians to HEC and sought more time for verification of 93 degrees.
