Rana vows to improve relations with media

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Nawaz Sharif has been asked to review his decision to expel PML-N MPA Mastkhel.

Talking to journalists outside the assembly building he said relations with media would continue to be sweet and sour; however, efforts were underway to resolve disputes.

Efforts are being made to remove anti media speeches from assembly proceeding record, he added.

There was no verdict against Secretary Prosecution Punjab Rana Maqbool Ahmad and ff Sindh government would initiate any step against him, he would be asked to defend, the minister added.

He pointed out that the Election Commission was to announce local bodies election schedule not the Punjab government.

LHC praises Geo?s role in saving people lives

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed federal, provincial governments and other concerned food departments to submit their written reply relating to a news of cat food, which was served to people as a human drink in Lahore, Geo news reported.

LHC took this decision over the writ petition filed by Judicial Activism against open sale of cat drink to people in Lahore.

Amid hearing of the petition, the senior judge Justice Azmat Saeed made his remarks that the court can not keep its eyes closed and mouth shut over sale of hazardous cat drink to public.

He also applauded role of Geo news saying, Geo has played a commendable role in reporting this news and has certainly saved precious lives of people.

Court has directed the concerned food departments to submit report on August 18, media reports said.

SC adjourns 18th amendment hearing till Monday

ISLAMBAD: At the hearing of identical petitions against some of the provisions of the 18th amendment here at the Supreme Court, arguments and remarks were given on the spirit and basic structure of the Constitution with regard to introducing amendments in it.

Abdul Hafeez Pirzada continued giving arguments against the provisions in the 18th amendment at the hearing carried out by 17-judge larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

He said the Supreme Court is competent to declare any amendment void that stands in violation of the basic structure of the Constitution.

Prizada argued that the new procedure of appointment of judges will create unnecessary complications.

Justice Asif Saeed in his remarks said Articles 68 and 69 will also have to be abolished in case Article 175 is repealed.

Earlier, the Chief Justice in his comments said the Parliamentary Committee has acknowledged the basic structure of the Constitution and now the court is to give a final shape to the various opinions given on the basic structure of the Constitution.

Bench-member Justice Ghulam Rabbani in his remarks said the powers enjoyed by a legislative assembly are less than the constituent assembly.

Clash between police, land grabbers claim two lives

KARACHI: A clash between the land grabbers and police claimed two lives in Ittehad Town area of Baldia Town, Geo News reported.

According to the details, elements belonging to the land encroachers resisted stiffly and opened fire on the police when the government team reached the area. Police resorted with tear gas shelling.

The city government has recovered the encroached land while the miscreants have climbed the nearby hills from where they were reported to have been attacking government team.
