Arresting inflationary pressure govt?s top priority: Hafeez

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said the present government has taken measures to counter challenges being faced by the national economy, like inflationary pressure, energy deficit and circular debt

In a meeting with a World Bank delegation Hafeez Sheikh gave an overview of Pakistan’’s economy saying that the WB has played a crucial role in economic development of Pakistan.

For example, in order to maintain macro-economic stability, policies of fiscal, debt reduction and reducing inflation to single digit are being followed.

Similarly, for the process of growth acceleration, the government has introduced structural reforms, productivity and efficiency enhancement process, improvement in governance and encouraging private investment, he added.

The WB delegation appreciated the signs of improvement in Pakistan’’s economy, saying that it has potential to grow.

The bank would provide all possible assistance to Pakistan in facing the economic challenges, said WB Vice President for South Asia Region Ms. Isabel Guerrero, who was leading a WB delegation.

She said that Pakistan’’s economy has the potential to grow and the World Bank wants to see Pakistan moving on the path of development with a vibrant economy.

On the occasion, the finance minister gave an overview of Pakistan’’s economy saying that the WB has played a crucial role in economic development of Pakistan.

“The World Bank has played a crucial role in economic development of Pakistan and we expect that this relationship will continue in future as well,” he added.

Earlier, the World Bank delegation was briefed about the state of Pakistan’’s economy by the senior officials of Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs Division.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of State for Finance, Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar and Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Dr. Nadeemul Haq.

Dr. Jabbar sacked on nurse rape attempt charge

KARACHI: Dr. Abdul Jabbar Memon, accused of allegedly attempting to rape a nurse, has been ?dismissed? from service with immediate effect.

Sindh Health Minister Dr. Saghir Ahmed stated this here on Saturday. He said the decision of dismissal of Dr. Abdul Jabbar Memon was made in light of statement the affected nurse gave upon regaining consciousness.

Meanwhile, a detailed report is yet to be submitted by investigative committee set up after the incident.

In-charge of Jinnah Hospital?s Emergency Department, Dr. Simi Jamali had confirmed that the name of the accused was Dr. Abdul Jabbar Memon ? an employee of Sindh Health Department.

Dr. Simi Jamali had said that although Dr. Abdul Jabbar Memon had been transferred, he continued to stay there illegally.

Rajanpur?s govt land to go to agriculture graduates: Shahbaz

RAJANPUR: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif Saturday directed the administration to get government land released from land grabbers and then distribute it among agriculture graduates.

A high-level meeting presided over by CM Punjab was held here at Rajanpur DCO office and attended by former prime minister Balakh Sher Mazari, Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, IG Punjab Tariq Salim Dogar and Punjab Home Secretary Asif Hassan Nadim.

Later, talking to media Shahbaz Sharif said ?Sasti Roti? scheme is his recognition on which, he said, Rs5 billion will be spent during the current fiscal.

The CM announced that ?Danish Schools? will be established in four districts ? Rajanpur, Lodhran, Attock and Rojhan.

Victim nurse speaks out, says she was gang raped

KARACHI: The nurse, who, according to a medical report, was gang raped spoke to MPA Humaira Alwani today for a while, Geo News reported.

The victim girl told the MPA that she was gang raped by the MLO Dr Abdul Jabbar Memon and others after being forcibly taken to the flat.

MPA Alwani also told Geo News that the nurse was ready to tell the truth but was scared of being vicimised.

Earlier, a medical report has said that Jinnah hospital’’s trainee nurse was raped.

The horrific incident has sent a wave of insecurity among the female medical staff. Score of nurses have resolved that they will continue their peaceful strike against the brutality of the accused MLO, who has no good service record. The accused has been suspended six or seven times during his tenure.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Memon, living in Mess No 96 of JPMC Doctors Colony, had booked in case of alleged rape and murder attempt at a nursing student.
