Musharraf has no future in politics: Ejazul Haq

LAHORE: The PML-Zia Chairman Muhammad Ejazul Haq and former minister in former president Pervez Musharraf regime stated that the ex-dictator has no future in the country’’s politics.

He was addressing a press briefing at Lahore Press Club here Saturday.

Hamayun Akhtar Khan from PML (Like-minded) and MPA Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood from PML (Functional) also accompanied him.

Ejazul Haq told media that they have written letters to respective leadership of various factions of the PML, urging them for working together to pull Pakistan out of the prevailing crises on different fronts.

He added that in this regard, they have received very positive response from the PML-F head Pir Sahab Pagara, while, the PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain also expressed his resolve to jointly work for the welfare and progress of Pakistan and assured his party’’s cooperation.

To a question, the PML-Z President said that they were also in contact with other political parties including Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf, Jamaat-e-Islami and Sindh Awami Ittihad, adding, “We want the sincere and patriot people must come forward to play their role for the welfare and prosperity of the nation.”

He said, “We will meet again at Pir Sahab Pagara’’s residence in Karachi on August 5, 2010 to chalk-out joint strategy in this regard.

To another question, he said that they support the formation of new provinces to ensure timely, speedy and effective administrative measures to facilitate the general public.

Ziaul Haq, Hamayun Akhtar and Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood also strongly condemned the anti-media resolution presented by a PML-N MPA Sana Ullah Mastikhel and subsequently, unanimously passed by the Punjab Assembly.

They said that all the parliamentary parties at their own must take cognizance of the fake degrees of the MPs and expose the black sheep in their folds.

Police raid HEC chairman’’s home, arrest 9 servants

HYDERABAD: A large contingent of Sindh Police raided HEC Chairman Javed Leghari’’s home and broke its doors in Goth Bakhshoo Leghari on Friday.

The police also raided his servants” homes, arrested nine of them, and shifted them to an unknown place. Their names are Sultan Chandio, Jeevan Kohli, Sangro Kohli, Kamal, Hurchan Kohli, Sheva Kohli, Weeru Kohli and Kmil Dars.

The police with many vehicles entered Goth Bakhshoo Leghari, which is the native village of the HEC chairman, in the jurisdiction of the Paban Police Station.

Policemen while leaving took many items with them.

When the family and servants refused to open the doors, the police broke them and entered the houses. They tortured children and women and arrested eight servants.

Butt accepts Afridi?s resignation as Test captain

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ejaz Butt, accepting resignation of Test captain Pakistan cricket team Shahid Khan Afridi, has said the new captain will be decided after meeting to be held between players and PCB officials, Geo news reported.

After the dismal performance of Pakistan cricket team, which ended in 150-run defeat against Australia on Friday, the Test captain Shahid Afridi announced his retirement saying that 5-day format of cricket was not his game type.

Besides, he was also carrying side strain injury, said Afridi, ?So, I do not want to play Test cricket.?

?I may not play second Test?, he feared adding that, if fit, the second Test of this series will be my last one.

Later, taking to Geo news, Chairman PCB Ejaz Butt rebuffing Salman Butt being automatic choice of captainship following Afridi?s retirement, said new captain will be decided in board meeting.

Closure of 3 PEPCO plants adds 1400 MW to shortfall

LAHORE: Director General PEPCO Engineer Muhammad Khalid Saturday said that closure of three of the PEPCO?s power plants has contributed 1400 MW to the total shortfall of electricity in the country to 1400 MW.

He said that OGDCL has suspended gas supply to Och power plant having capacity to generate 500 MW electricity while combined generation of 900 MW has also suffered suspension at Chashma Nuclear Power Plant and HUBCO.

This has further contributed the power shortage by 1400 MW. However, the D Engineer Muhammad Khalid said the situation will improve by tomorrow.

Serial blasts hit Lahore

LAHORE: Two simultaneous blasts occurred in Lahore on Saturday, Geo News reported.

According to initial reports, three persons sustained injuries in a blast occurred in a net café in Ghari Shahu. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Another explosion happened near juice corner in Begum Kot area. Prior to blasts, journalists received SMS threatening three blasts will occurr in different areas of Lahore today.

A previously unknown organization Tahreek-e-Tahfuz Pakistan has claimed responsibility of the blasts.

5 hurt in Lahore blasts

LAHORE: Five people wounded in minor blasts occurred in Ghari Shahu and Begum Kot areas of Lahore on Saturday.

According to rescue sources, first explosion occurred at a net café in Ghari Shahu in which three persons sustained injuries. Police and rescue teams reached at the site of blast and shifted injured to Ganga Ram Hospital. The blast shattered the windowpanes of net café and nearby buildings.

Another blast happened after few minutes in a net café in Begum Kot area in Shahdra. Two people injured in the incident rushed to Meo Hospital. Tahreek-e- Tahfuz Pakistan has claimed the responsibility of the blasts. Media persons got the SMS prior to the blasts intimating about the blasts. Security put on high alert in the city after the blasts.
