KARACHI: The number of wounded persons including children and women has surpassed 70 amid gunfire incidents related to new-year celebrations in separate areas here in metropolis on Friday night, Geo News reported.Firing continued more than 2 hours.According to sources, though Sindh Home Ministry had imposed Section 144, banning carrying and display of arms in city even then hundreds of thousands of merry-makers and revelers welcomed in the year 2011 by resorting to aerial firing in almost every part here. Over 70 persons sustained bullet-inflicted injuries as the firing lasted over 2 hours, police sources told Geo News.Police and rangers personnel kept on patrolling across the city while firing was on, but could only manage to play role of onlookers whereas many youths continued riding motorcycles without silencers, witnesses told Geo News.Injured persons have been admitted to Civil Hospital, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Jinnah Medical Institute and many others for medical attainment, hospital sources told Geo News, ascertaining that there was no causality.
