Ejaz Butt didn?t participate in Senate body meeting

ISLAMABAD: Senate standing committee on sports has voiced grave concern over non-participation of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ejaz Butt in the meeting and postponed the meeting besides summoning Ejaz Butt in its February, 15 meeting.

Committee met here Thursday with its chairman senator Ghaffar Qureshi. Committee pointed out that chairman PCB was not present in the meeting. PCB chief operating officer Waseem Bari told the committee Ejaz Butt was in Aiwan-e- Sadr.

Member of committee senator Haroon Rashid said PCB chairman preferred to go to Aiwan Sadr and did not attend the meeting. “We respect president Asif Ali Zardari but it is not necessary every one who is present in the Aiwan-e- Sadr be respected.

The NA standing committee on sports while directing Pakistan Squash Federation to sort out the problems facing the players has said committee will soon meet president Asif Ali Zardari to ensure implementation of its recommendations.

Committee met here under its chairman Jamshed Dasti.

Iqbal Qasim, who had resigned from the office of chief selector following the defeat of Pakistan cricket team at the hands of Australia, said defeat was not less than a tragedy, therefore he resigned due to this crushing defeat. National team lacked discipline and PCB had no disciplinary committee, he added.

Minister for sports Ejaz Jakhrani said PCB management had no control over the players. Jamshed Dasti said game of money was going on in cricket board and standing committee would continue its accountability process.
