Gilani hopes for resolution of judges appointments
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said there is no threat to democracy, country and institutions in the country, vowing the government will settle issues including the judges? appointments, Geo News reported Sunday.
Talking to media during his visit of SOS Village, he said it is the Supreme Court (SC) that would decide on the judges? appointments, adding the government will make its stance known at the court.
He said, ?Pakistan People?s Party (PPP) government is not against the judiciary, as we waged the movements in its favour,? adding the government appreciates the role of media and judiciary.
Responding a query, he said the decisions sometimes hit the mark and sometimes they go wrong, adding the people may have differing opinions in connection with the law and the Constitution.
He continued, ?According to some experts, our decision is all right. The summary on the judges appointments was sent to the SC; however, the apex court did not change its standpoint.?
There is no threat to country or institutions, he maintained voicing disapproval for linking the minor issues with the very existence of the country.
Replying a query, he said every affair has been given thought in the meeting with Nawaz Sharif; however, the issue relating judges? appointments did not come under discussion.
He also vowed that the government will not hold back its decision regarding the extension of the term of the Army Chief.
Commenting on Indo-Pak negotiations, he said the government wants purposeful talks with the neighboring India on all outstanding issues, adding the government is fully capable to cope with the internal and external challenges.
