Good governance sans delivery of justice not possible: CJ

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the claims of good governance cannot be made without the speedy delivery of justice.

Addressing a full court reference held in the honour of outgoing judge Justice Sardar Muhammad Khan today, the chief justice said the protection of the Constitution is the duty of judiciary.

He said the establishment of a civilized society is not possible without independent, impartial and efficient judiciary.

Earlier, speaking on this occasion, the Attorney General said that judiciary is the weakest institution among executive, legislatures and the judiciary.

?We need to realize that judiciary and democracy are independent,? he commented.

Chief Justice Chaudhry and other judges of the Supreme Court paid tribute to the retiring judge Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan for his services for the delivery of justice.
